YW in Excellence 2007

Chalk Boards for girls and their Recipe for Success cards
Entrance to Bistro on 3rd
Girls who got their award
Menu
YW in Excellence turned out great this past year... We used a deli theme and called our restaurant... "Bistro on 3rd". We had deli sandwiches with garnishes that represented all of the YW values and colors (see picture of the menu). The night highlighted the 5 girls who got their YW in Excellence Award and their parents. Each girl took a moment to share their favorite project. My favorite part of the night (besides the fabulous decor!) was the chalk boards that our wonderful Secretary made for the girls. Instead of the classic 'display table', the girls got to write their favorite experience/project on a "recipe for success card" that got placed on their respective chalk board. We then put the chalk boards around the room for the guests to read. It was a great night!

New Beginnings 2008

For New Beginnings this year, our YW president came up with the fun idea of a Talk Show! It was called "The View--A Young Women's Perspective on Life". The evening consisted of hosts, special guests, commercial breaks, and craft corner. The hosts were the YW president and young women. The special guests were the Bishop to talk about mutual, a laurel to talk about camp, a laurel to talk about her YW in excellence award, ect ect. The commercial breaks advertised about Youth Conference and Girls Camp. Craft Corner highlighted how to make the favor of the night. The script involved funny things about YW like being late to 9 am church and flaking out on mutual nights. We had a great turnout and it was a fun different alternative to New Beginnings!

Rhodes Dough

Last night for our activity, we went to the Rhodes Dough building and learned how to make some fun and simple recipes using Rhodes Dough. The demonstration lasted about 30 minutes and then we were able to sample all of the recipes and all of the different breads, rolls and desserts. The girls seemed to really enjoy it and all of the prep work and clean up stayed at Rhodes Dough! They do the demonstrations on Tuesday and Wednesday nights at 7:00. There is a minimum requirement of 30 girls, so we invited the girls moms to come too! It cost $3.00 per person. Check out their website for more info www.rhodesbread.com
